Austech 2008 Exhibition Review

Lazer Safe received a positive response to their new press brake productivity enhancement systems from visitors to this years Austech exhibition.

The new products feature a block laser and digital camera system that are mounted on the press brake to provide superior operator security and tool damage protection. The key feature that was of most interest is the ability of the system to allow a 2mm change of speed point. This has never before been possible with other light guard systems which in most cases have a speed change point of 12 – 22mm. The Lazer Safe block laser system provides a saving of up to 2 or more seconds per cycle. This reduces the overall cycle time to significantly increase the productivity of the machine.

Another impressive feature is the optional bend angle confirmation function. During the bending process the system images the work piece and through high speed digital image processing, measures the bend angle on every cycle. Data transfer to the CNC system can facilitate additional functions such as visual alert to the operator if a bend angle is out of tolerance and/or automatic correction to the bend program with re-bending.

The block laser system was demonstrated live at the exhibition on a Dye press brake at the Dye Machinery Australia stand. Visitors to the stand could see first hand the productivity advantages of the 2mm change of speed point and the bend angle confirmation function.

With the official international release of the block laser system scheduled for Euroblech in Hanover this October, Austech has provided a good platform for Lazer Safe to introduce and demonstrate their new technology to the Australian sheet metal market.

The block laser system is available to all press brake manufacturers so customers looking to purchase a new machine can benefit from Lazer Safe's new productivity enhancement technology. Many manufacturers that are already using Lazer Safe technology as standard equipment will be changing to the block laser system over the coming months. Lazer Safe anticipates that many OEM press brakes will feature the block laser system as standard at Austech in Melbourne next year.
